The Decor Essentials Every Living Room Needs, According To An Interior Designer

Welcome to Budget by Design, where interior designers, bloggers, and writers share their picks for impeccable and accessible decor.

It's a fact: The living room comes alive in the details. Final touches, like cozy throw blankets, pop-of-color pillows, and coffee table decor are what take your space to the next level.

And styling your living room for maximum comfort shouldn't mean maxing out your credit card. Becky Shea, the interior designer behind Becky Shea Designs, shared a selection of living room decor finds that look and feel luxurious but won't break the bank. Plus, to sweeten the deal, all pieces can be found for sale from Jenni Kayne, who designs Cali-inspired, modern items that make for the perfect understated style statement.

Warning: You may find yourself spending a few more Saturday nights on the couch.

"Pacific Natural: Simple Seasonal Entertaining" Coffee Table Book, $45

"I have to admit I'm a sucker for a good coffee table book, especially one that's aesthetically beautiful while containing useful tips and tricks," says Shea. "Jenni's new book is exactly that and is packed full of recipes, hosting tips and stunning large-format images. A must-have in my opinion!"

Small Leather Rivet Vase, $115

"One of my all-time favorites, this handmade vase makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside whenever I place a little arrangement in it. Mix and match with the medium and large versions of the Rivet Vase for a cute vignette," says Shea. She adds a reminder to avoid getting water on the leather while filling it, though, or the vase will discolor.

Currant Matte Glass Candle, $55

"Currently our signature scent at Becky Shea Design, this made-in-LA candle hits all the right notes!" says Shea. "Curl up with a good book (Pacific Natural, anyone?) and a crisp glass of rosé while indulging in its relaxing aroma. I promise, your nose — and mind — will thank you."

Alpaca Loom Throw in Oatmeal, $395

Shea says: "Everyone needs a cozy throw as an accent layer, and this alpaca throw is one of my go-tos for being lightweight yet providing plenty of warmth. The sweater-knit edges give it a unique touch that's truly beautiful."

Linen Picnic Blanket, $205

Bonus pick: This picnic blanket, which serves as the perfect base for a picnic in the park or one you host on the living room floor. "I absolutely adore this picnic blanket!" says Shea. "With its leather strap, it's perfect for you and your significant other to enjoy the great outdoors in a timeless, sophisticated setting." (Plus, it will look so chic in a basket by your fireplace when not in use.)
