What Adheres To Brick?
Builders traditionally construct brick walls with mortar. Though mortar effectively bonds bricks together, the substance can be too messy for decorative applications or sculpture projects using bricks. Depending on your needs, you can choose from several commercial adhesive products to bond bricks together or attach objects to brick.
Mortar
Mortar is a spreadable mixture of water, sand, lime and cement used to permanently bond bricks together to create a strong foundation. When mortar dries, it is similar to brick in strength and structure and can withstand precipitation, sunlight, high temperatures and heat, including fireplace flames.
Landscape Adhesive
Landscape adhesive is a strong, premixed adhesive sold in tubes with a nozzle to dispense small amounts of the product. The adhesive is weatherproof, but not suitable for immersion in water or direct sunlight. Landscape adhesive is ideal for repairing broken bricks or fastening decorative accessories to brick.
Epoxy Resin Adhesive
Epoxy resin is a strong adhesive used to bond stone, wood and metal objects. The adhesive typically comes with resin and hardener that are mixed together in a 1:1 ratio to produce putty. The putty can fit into cracks and crevices and will harden to form a tight, strong bond between two objects. Epoxy is water and heat resistant.
Hot Glue
Hot glue can adhere to brick for temporary applications, such as hanging Christmas light clips to brick walls. The glue is strong, but will eventually wear out when continually exposed to moisture, sun and heat.
