Can I Use Vinegar To Clean My Hot Tub?

White vinegar is an acetic acid solution made from grain and water, and is used for both cooking and cleaning. Using vinegar to clean a hot tub or spa is a safe and effective method.

Vinegar Benefits

Vinegar is safer and less expensive to use than commercial chemical products. Vinegar is safe to use around children and pets, does not add harmful chemicals to the water supply, and cleans and deodorizes effectively. The vinegar will help prevent spa jets from clogging, remove water spots and bacteria, and clean residue and odors.

Using Vinegar

Pour one gallon of white distilled vinegar into the hot tub or spa water. Allow it to soak and run through for an hour or two. Pour undiluted vinegar onto a cloth or sponge and wipe the sides of the hot tub, allow it to sit for five minutes and then rinse with warm water.

Maintenance

Soak the hot tub or spa with vinegar once or twice per year. Spot clean with undiluted vinegar weekly or as needed.
