Nontoxic household cleaners are a great way to keep your home green and clean. Borax and vinegar are two safe ingredients that can be combined to create a good general cleaning solution. Undiluted vinegar and borax can also be used for mildew removal. When mixing Borax with other ingredients, it is essential to use warm water to help it dissolve.
Step 1
Clean and rinse an empty spray bottle or purchase a new one.
Step 2
Add 1 qt. warm water to a small bucket.
Step 3
Add 1 tsp. liquid soap to the water; any kind will do.
Step 4
Add 1 tsp. Borax to the soap and water mix.
Step 5
Add 1/4 cup of white vinegar as the last ingredient.
Step 6
Stir until all ingredients are dissolved. Pour as much of the solution as will fit into an empty spray bottle. Additional cleaner can be stored in another bottle.
Step 7
Spray the cleaner on counter tops or floors or wherever general cleaning is required. For mildew removal, make a stronger solution by mixing 1/2 cup vinegar with 1/2 cup of Borax. To obtain optimal results, add warm water to the Borax first in order to dissolve it. Then mix with vinegar.
