How To Open A Yale Safe With A Combination

The Yale safe can be used to store valuable personal documents and is ideal for businesses that need to store large amounts of cash. Many Yale safes operate with a combination lock, protected by a four-digit combination. With the combination in hand, you can operate your safe and have a secure place to store your valuables.

Step 1

Rotate the dial on the front of the safe twice, once clockwise to the right and once counterclockwise to the left, stopping the dial at 0.

Step 2

Rotate the dial in a clockwise direction, passing the first number of the combination four times. Stop the dial on that number on the fifth rotation.

Step 3

Rotate the dial in a counterclockwise direction, passing the second number of the combination three times. Stop the dial on that number on the third rotation.

Step 4

Rotate the dial in a clockwise direction, passing the third number of the combination twice. Stop the dial on that number on the second rotation.

Step 5

Rotate the dial in a counterclockwise direction until it reaches the fourth number of the combination. When the dial reaches the last number, you will hear a click inside the lock and the safe door will open.

Tip

Some Yale safe locks use an inverse order. If your lock does not open using the above instructions, reverse the order of rotations. Instead of an order of right-left-right-left, try left-right-left-right. When counting the rotation, do not count the revolutions of the dial, rather the times that the combination number passes the index mark.
