Samsung is a South Korean company famous for its home electronics. The Seoul-based organization make a range of home appliances including several models of side-by-side refrigerators with water dispenser. Repairing your refrigerator's water dispenser is a good way of saving money on repair visits, especially since many faults are fixable at home. You will need to access the area behind your freezer for this task — ask a friend to help, if you need it.
Step 1
Hold down the "Energy Saver" button for three seconds to release the child lock feature. Samsung refrigerators let you lock the water dispenser so kids can't access water without your attention. Hold down the "Energy Saver" button for a further three seconds to re-activate the lock.
Step 2
Make sure nothing's blocking the door shelves inside the refrigerator compartment and push the door closed. The water dispenser won't work unless the door is completely shut and the rubber gaskets are touching the body of the refrigerator.
Step 3
Grab a bucket and run the dispenser for two minutes. Air trapped in the supply line will splutter out of the nozzle as you drain the internal water tank. The dispenser might drip or stop working if air is trapped in the pipes.
Step 4
Carefully move the refrigerator away from the wall with the help of a friend. Check the water supply line running from the back of the appliance to the shutoff valve is kink-free and straight as possible. Ensure the shutoff lever or valve is open.
Step 5
Tap the "Freezer" button until the temperature display reads 0 F . Samsung freezers go as low as -14 F but you risk freezing the water tank or supply line. Experts recommend storing food at 0 F for best results. Try your dispenser over the next few days until the tank or supply line thaws.
Step 6
Check the LCD display above the word "Filter." Change the water filter whenever a red light appears. Limescale and impurities in your water supply clog the filter over time. Close the water shutoff valve and turn the "Lock" dial at the bottom right of the refrigerator 90 degrees counterclockwise.
Pull the filter casing out of the refrigerator and insert a new filter into the slot. Turning the new filter 90 degrees clockwise locks it in place making it ready for use. Hold the "Water" button on the control panel for three seconds until the "Filter" light goes blue. Try the dispenser again.
