Which Way Should Your Bed Face For The Best Sleep?

While some people may be skeptical of Feng Shui, no one can dispute the deep satisfaction of a good night's sleep, and oftentimes what makes or breaks some solid ZZZs is how your bedroom is arranged. Too much light, too many humming electronics or the position of your bed can influence the quality of your sleep.

Feng Shui Basics

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics that uses the energy of the space and of the people and things in that space to encourage positive chi (energy) to flow, thereby creating harmony and good fortune. And Feng Shui is not just ancient Asian mumbo-jumbo. Quantum Physics is the study of matter and energy at molecular, atomic and nuclear levels that says everything, from a human to a flower to a car, is made up of energy and is therefore influenced by other waves of energy.

Your Bed

Considering that you spend one-third of your life asleep, a good bed is essential. And the better your sleep, the better your overall health. Your bed should be bought new, never used, if possible, since negative energy of the last owner may still be stuck to it and will affect your energy. The bed should have a solid headboard, preferably of wood, to protect your head while you sleep. Clear the clutter from beneath your bed, including dust balls, because the negative energy of chaos will infiltrate you while you sleep.

Bed Position

In general, you should place your bed in a location where it is not directly in line with the door, and the foot of your bed should not face the door. The head of your bed should be up against a wall, but not sharing a wall (on either side) with any electronics or the bathroom. Balancing energy on both sides should be encouraged by placing matching night stands there, for example, and no sharp angles should point at the bed.

To get more personalized instructions, use the Eight Mansions guideline, which is a popular method to establish the good and bad locations of your furniture (see Resources). With this method, people fit into one of two groups—the East Life or the West Life—which is obtained from their year of birth. East Life people favor north, south, east and southeast directions for their bed, while the West Life group favors the opposite.

Tips

A mirror facing the bed is a big no-no.

No beams, ceiling fans or chandeliers should be above your bed.

The bed should not be placed under a window or a sloped ceiling.

The bed should have access to it from both sides.

Do not have any water, from aquariums to pictures, in the bedroom.
