My Water Cooler Won't Dispense

Water coolers in the home are a real convenience. There is nothing better than fresh spring water at the push of a button. But sometimes the water cooler will not dispense the water. This can happen for several reasons. The spout button can become dirty, which can lead to it not operating correctly. Or sediment can accumulate and block the line that carries the water from the bottle to the spout. You can make the cooler to work properly again by using an easy-to-follow procedure.

Step 1

Remove the water bottle from the cooler. Use a small plastic container to bail out the water in the well of the cooler. When most of the water has been bailed out, use a sponge and bucket to soak up residual water.

Step 2

Remove the plastic ring around the button or lever on the spout. Ensure that you remember how all the parts fit together before removing them. There should be a spring mechanism, a washer and–depending on the model of cooler–some other small parts.

Step 3

Fill the plastic container with WD-40.

Step 4

Soak the parts from the spout assembly in the WD-40 for 40 minutes to an hour.

Step 5

Blow compressed air through the fitting in the bottom of the well where the bottle normally sits. Keep blowing the air until you can feel it coming out the end where the spout is.

Step 6

Remove the spout parts from the WD-40 and wash them thoroughly in hot soapy water. Let the parts dry and reinstall them into the cooler spout.
