How To Lift The Range On A Frigidaire Gas Oven

Things Needed

  • 1/4-inch nut driver or socket wrench

  • 4-inch-wide putty knife

Tip

If your controls are on the back of the unit, insert the putty knife between the range top and the front trim on the oven.

Most Frigidaire gas oven ranges use sealed burners to obviate the need to raise the range top for cleaning. However, in order to gain access to make repairs to the orifices or to the gas lines, it is still necessary to raise the top. Lifting the range on a Frigidaire gas oven does require disconnecting the range top from the burner orifices. On many models, the range top is removable once you lift it from the main unit.

Step 1

Lift the grates off the top of the range. Pull the burner caps and the burners off the range top, just as you would when cleaning them thoroughly.

Step 2

Find the range top mounting screws on the top of the range near each burner orifice. There are two screws beside each burner orifice. Remove the screws with a 1/4-inch nut driver or socket wrench.

Step 3

Insert a 4-inch-wide putty knife between the range top and control manifold on the front-left corner of the unit. Push the putty knife until the blade slides over the mounting clip. You will feel the mounting clip when inserting the blade.

Step 4

Lift the left-front corner of the range top once the putty knife disengages the mounting clip. Move the putty knife to the right-front corner and repeat the process. Once the front of the range top disengages from both mounting clips, lift the front of the range top and engage the support rod to hold it in the service position.
