Warning

There are few things in this world as maddening as a small, consistent and unexplained buzzing noise. Urban legend says that the CIA uses a constant, high-pitched whine in the ear as psychological warfare. Though it is very unlikely that the CIA is causing your stove clock buzz, no one blames you for being freaked out over it. A buzzing stove clock can have several causes. Unless you want to pay a repair person, stopping clock buzz on your stove will take a little detective work.

Step 1

Turn the timer button off by twisting it a tiny bit to the right. Sometimes they get wiggled loose and stick in the pre-buzz warning stage.

Step 2

Examine your stove. You can often track down the source of a sound just by listening, and by wiggling and pressing on things. Occasionally the face plate over the timers will be a little loose and the small vibrating rattle can sound like a buzz. Double-sided poster tape slipped in between the face plate and backing will often help. Trim the visible excess with a utility knife.

Step 3

Unplug your stove. Use a screwdriver to remove the face plate or the back – whatever part of your particular stove you have to take off to get to the clock. Find the clock wires. Unplug them if possible. If it is not possible to unplug them, cut the power wire and tape off both ends with electrical tape.
