How To Take Apart An InSinkErator
Things Needed
-
Screwdriver
-
Open-end wrench
The Badger InSinkErator is a popular kitchen home garbage disposal system installed directly under your sink. If your InSinkErator ever has malfunctions you may have to take the machine apart. Several connections have to be removed first, like the electrical connection and plumbing connections. However, once that is accomplished, the rest of the disposal can be disassembled and removed from its casing in a matter of a few minutes.
Step 1
Shut off the power from the circuit breaker to the breaker that runs your garbage disposal.
Step 2
Remove any contents located inside your kitchen cabinet beneath your kitchen sink and set down a towel and a drip pan.
Step 3
Shut the water control valve inside your cabinet to the off position by turning it all the way to the right.
Step 4
Use an open-end wrench to remove the two bolts that fasten the discharge tube to the side of the disposal.
Step 5
Loosen the three mounting screws at the top of the InSinkErator that fasten it to the bottom of your sink, using the screwdriver.
Step 6
Turn the disposal upside down and remove the single screw holding the electrical cover plate in place. Use your fingers to disconnect the electrical connections.
Step 7
Locate the four small screws on the outer cover of your disposal. They are located at the center of the disposal. Remove these screws with a screwdriver. This allows the outer casing of your disposal to separate.
