How To Remove A Door On A Kenmore Elite Fridge

A Kenmore 795 door removal, or the door removal of a differently numbered model in the Kenmore Elite series, may be necessary to cut down on weight if your Elite refrigerator is being moved to a new location in your home. You may also be removing refrigerator doors for delivery if your bottom freezer, side-by-side or french door refrigerator won't fit through doorways or other tight spaces. Before you begin to remove a door from your fridge, remove all the food from the refrigerator and freezer compartments and place it in a cooler to keep it from spoiling.

It's important to recruit someone to help you remove a refrigerator door. The excessive weight of the door creates a hazard that could cause an injury. Be sure to unplug the appliance before taking any steps to remove the door, including removing the base grille.

The Kenmore Elite refrigerator series includes numerous model numbers. Some of these numbers begin with 795, including the Sears Kenmore Elite Bottom Freezer Refrigerator (Model Number 795.7313). • Removing the left refrigerator door: After unplugging your
  refrigerator and moving it away from the wall, disconnect the water supply line
  by pressing the fitting release ring and pulling the water tube out of the connector
  fitting. Open the left door and remove the top hinge cover screw; lift the
  cover and remove it. Remove the tube, disconnect the wire harnesses and remove
  the grounding screw. Rotate the hinge lever counterclockwise and lift the top
  hinge away from the hinge lever latch while being careful to support the door so it doesn't fall forward. Lift the door off the middle hinge pin and remove
  it.
• Removing the right refrigerator door: Open the right door and remove the top hinge cover screw; lift the cover and remove it. Rotate
  the hinge lever clockwise and lift the top hinge away from the hinge lever
  latch while being careful to support the door. Lift the
  door off the middle hinge pin and remove it.

Before removing doors from a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, first remove the grille at the base of your fridge according to the directions in your user manual.

• Removing the right refrigerator door: Open the door and remove the top hinge cover screw. Using a flat-head screwdriver, pry back the hooks on the hinge cover at the top of the refrigerator's cabinet and lift the cover. Disconnect all of the wiring harnesses and remove the grounding screw. Rotate the hinge lever clockwise and lift the top hinge away from the hinge lever latch while being careful to support the door. Lift the door off the lower hinge pin.
• Removing the left freezer door: Pull up the water feed tube by pressing down on the collet, which is the metal band at the end of the tube. Open the door and remove the top hinge cover screw. Using a flat-head screwdriver, pry back the hooks on the hinge cover at the top of the refrigerator's cabinet and lift the cover. Disconnect all of the wiring harnesses and remove the grounding screw. Rotate the hinge lever counterclockwise and lift the top hinge away from the hinge lever latch while being careful to support the door. Lift the door off the lower hinge pin while carefully pulling the water lines through the lower hinge pin.
