How To Troubleshoot A DE Code For An LG Washer
A DE code on an LG clothes washer indicates that a problem with the door exists. Although this code is most often seen when the door is locked shut and you cannot open it, it can appear at any time and for different reasons. To avoid seeing this code, check the latch on your LG washer's door periodically to ensure it is locking and releasing properly. Although sometimes the only way to correct the DE error is to hire a professional to check and fix the washer, there are a few at-home troubleshooting efforts you can employ first.
Step 1
Identify when you are receiving the DE code. It can appear if you have an item caught in the door, at some point during the middle of a cycle, at the end of a cycle, if you paused the machine or if the door is damaged.
Step 2
Remove any item that may be caught in the washer's door. If you are still getting the error, unplug the machine for five minutes and then plug it back in and power it back on. If you cannot remove the item and the door is stuck closed, do not force the door as you may damage it; instead, hire a professional to open it.
Step 3
Power off the machine and unplug it if you receive the error mid-cycle or at the end of the cycle. After five minutes, restart the machine and try to open the door again.
Step 4
Wait about a minute for the door to unlock if you paused the machine during a cycle. In this situation, the locked door and appearance of the DE error is merely a safety precaution.
Step 5
Call a professional to repair your washer if the door or gasket is damaged. This can cause door locking issues as well as the DE error. You may be able to have the machine repaired or replaced for free if it is still under warranty.
