How To Hang An Object On Aluminum Siding
Tip
To remove the vinyl siding hook later, raise the lower portion out to a 90-degree angle with the wall and the upper hook will slip out of place.
Vinyl siding is a common and durable exterior home covering. While siding often improves the exterior home's appearance, it is difficult to hang objects like garden plaques on this material. Inserting nails or screws often voids the warranty and causes moisture damage from rainfall. Instead, use a specially designed vinyl siding hook, which holds the object securely in place without damaging the vinyl siding itself. Depending on the brand, most vinyl siding hooks will hold up to 12 lbs. of weight.
Step 1
Examine the vinyl siding to determine where you want to hang the object. Although you can adjust the hook slightly after installation you should try to get it as close to the final position as possible.
Step 2
Pick up a vinyl siding hook and place it under the desired siding slat with the upper hooked portion facing toward you.
Step 3
Push the hook up under the siding, wiggling it from side to side if needed to accomplish this. Then lay the hook flat against the siding and pull down gently to ensure the hook is secure.
Step 4
Pick up the object you are hanging and locate the hanging hook on the back of it. Align the hanging hook on the object with the lower hook on the vinyl siding hook. Lower the object into position.
