If you have a broken hinge on your storm door, the easiest way to fix the problem is to purchase a new hinge and simply install it right onto the storm door. Because there will already be screw holes from the hold hinge, this is a simple job that won't take a couple people more than an hour or so complete. You will be able to remove the broken hinge and replace it with a new one to fix your storm door.
Step 1
Find the broken hinge that you are going to be replacing. The first thing to do is remove the door, so use the end of your screw driver to tap the hinge pins out of the hinge. This will allow you to simply slide the door up and out of the existing hinge, making installing the new one a lot easier.
Step 2
Unscrew the broken hinge parts from the wall and from your storm door. Since you will not be needing the hinge or the screws again, go ahead and put the screws and broken hinge to the side and out of the way.
Step 3
Measure the area where you will be installing your new hinge so that you can make sure to buy the right size. Most likely, you will be able to get the same size hinge as before, allowing you to be able to connect it right through the same screw holes.
Step 4
Screw the new hinge parts into the wall where you removed the broken one, as well as into the door.
Step 5
Lift up the door and set it onto the hinges. You have not replaced the hinge pins yet, so the door will still need to be supported. Level the door to make sure it will open and close correctly, and again use the tip of your screwdriver to secure the hinge pins in place. Test your storm door to make sure that it opens and closes smoothly and securely, and you have official fixed your storm door's broken hinge.
