How To Reprogram A Genie Intellicode
Genie's Intellicode garage doors are designed to increase security for your home. Traditionally, remotes and keypads transmit the same signal every time they open the garage door as only a limited number of codes are available. This could result in a neighbor accidentally opening your garage door with their remote or a criminal easily hacking your system and gaining access to your home through the garage. However, the Intellicode system was programmed with billions of codes, and a new one is selected each time you open your garage door. This feature enhances your safety, making it close to impossible for someone else to open your garage door.
But if you lose your remote or share the keypad number with someone you no longer trust, then you must reprogram the system to maintain your safety.
Before you begin to erase or reprogram the remote or keypad, it is important to locate the programming button, also known as the Learn Code button, on the motor head. This button is located on the back of motor head. To find it, first locate the 6-inch floppy black antennae wire. Above the wire, you will see a small, black programming button along with an indicator light. This button is the programming button.
If your motor head does not have an antenna, then there will be an external receiver. This cover must be removed to access both the programming button and the indicator light.
Erase the Remote’s Programming
You do not need the actual remote to erase a remote's programming – you simply need the motor head. Press the programming button down until the light stops blinking. You have now deactivated your remote.
Program Your Remote
Before you begin programming, confirm your remote is compatible by pressing the remote button. If the light under the motor head's programming button blinks red, then your remote is compatible but not yet programmed to the unit. To program, press the button on the motor head once. The light will blink red. Then, with your remote at least 2 feet away from the motor, press the remote's button three times. After your first press, the light will turn from flashing to solid. The light will go out after you press your remote button a second time. On the third press, the motor will run. Your remote is now programmed.
