Tip
Leave the washer door open between cycles to prevent mold and mildew growth.
The Kenmore Elite line of washing machines provides an energy-efficient way to clean your clothes. With regular use, excess moisture may cause mold or mildew to grow in your washer. Though this problem tends to affect front-loading washers the most, any washer would benefit from regular cleaning. Kenmore recommends cleaning your washer monthly to keep it smelling fresh.
Step 1
Put on a pair of rubber gloves. Add 3/4 cup of bleach and 1 gallon of hot water to a bucket. Dip a sponge in the bucket and wipe the washer's door seal. Lift up the rubber seal to clean any mold or mildew underneath. Allow the bleach solution to sit for five minutes.
Step 2
Turn the empty washer on the hottest, longest setting available. Add 2/3 cup of bleach to the bleach compartment. Allow the Kenmore washer to run until the cycle is complete.
Step 3
Open the washer door when the cycle has finished. Dry the door seal with a towel and leave it open to allow for air flow.
