If your interior concrete walls are in need of a good cleaning, but you fear the mess you'll be left with just to get the job done, worry no more. Whether the walls are plagued with mold or mildew, or they're just dusty and dirty, you can wash them with the right products and methods to get them clean without making another mess you'll have to clean up.

Step 1

Protect the floor around the walls with plastic sheeting. This will catch any drips from the cleaning solution and make cleanup a breeze.

Step 2

Dust off the walls with a dry rag to remove loose dirt and dust. A soft brush vacuum cleaner hose attachment also works well for dusting off the walls.

Step 3

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of water. Add a few squirts of non-ammonia dish soap. Use your hands to mix up the water and soap. Fill another bucket with clean, warm water.

Step 4

Dip a rag into the bucket of plain water. Wring it out well, then wipe down the concrete walls. Rinse and wring out the rag often.

Step 5

Scrub the walls with a scrub brush and the soapy water. Rinse out the scrub brush in the bucket of soapy water frequently to avoid reapplying dirt to the walls.

Step 6

Rinse the walls with a rag and the clean water to remove any residue. Wipe them down with a dry rag to remove excess moisture.

Step 7

Mix together 1 gallon of water and ½ cup of chlorine bleach if the walls have mold or mildew. After scrubbing the walls as directed earlier, scrub them again, this time with a stiff scrub brush and the bleach solution. Let the bleach mixture sit on the walls for 15 minutes, then rinse the walls with a clean rag and warm water. Dry the walls thoroughly.
