If you're cleaning up the chalk artwork of neighborhood kids, you might want to let them know in advance and give your reason. This can help avoid any hurt feelings and disputes with neighbors.
Sidewalk chalk is cheerful and fun, but sometimes you might want to clean it off your concrete driveway or sidewalk before a good rain can wash it away. Chalk might seem simple to get rid of, but that's not always the case, according to Marsha Dennis, who directs the graffiti abatement department for the city of Portland, Ore. With a little effort, though, you should be able to erase your child's doodles, leaving a clean concrete surface.
Step 1
Spray down the chalk artwork with water from a garden hose. If no hose is accessible, douse the area with a bucket of water.
Step 2
Brush the chalk areas vigorously with the stiff bristle brush. Rinse the area with a hose or bucket of water.
Step 3
Rub any remaining chalk with a sponge and mildly abrasive liquid detergent. Switch to the scrub brush if the chalk still seems hard to remove.
Step 4
Rinse away all of the suds and chalky water with a hose or bucket. Allow the concrete to air-dry.
