How To Get Dog Urine Off A Suede Couch

Things Needed

  • Baking soda

  • Delicate laundry detergent

  • Sponge

  • Soft towels

  • Deodorizing spray

  • Soft brush

Tip

Treat the stain as soon as possible. The longer the urine has been soaking into the suede, the more difficult it will be to remove.

This article applies to other suede surfaces, such as shoes, clothing or car interiors.

Warning

Never over saturate the suede, as this may ruin its texture. Avoid harsh cleaning agents which may cause permanent damage to the suede.

Suede is soft leather with a delicately napped surface. Though suede is very soft to the touch, its durability makes it ideal for use on home furnishings such as couches, cushions and throw pillows. Even if the family dog is housebroken accidents can and will occur, especially if he enjoys curling up on your comfortable suede couch. Because of suede's unique texture, clean up spills and stains as quickly and carefully as possible.

Step 1

Sprinkle baking soda over the soiled area and allow it to absorb the urine overnight.

Step 2

Make a mixture of one part warm water and one part delicate laundry detergent. Saturate a sponge with the mixture and then wring it it out so that it remains moist.

Step 3

Blot the soiled area with the sudsy sponge.

Step 4

Wet a soft towel and blot the area to remove any excess soap. Allow the suede to dry overnight.

Step 5

Brush the suede using a gentle back and forth motion to restore its napped texture.

Step 6

Spray a light deodorizer over the suede to remove any lingering urine odor.
