An Architect Redesigns A Classic Paris Apartment To Better Reflect Its Fun Owner
Architect Camille Hermand likes to design spaces that are reflections of their owners, so when she met a woman who works for a children's fashion and lifestyle company in Paris, she knew the project was an opportunity to have some fun. The owner wanted to transform her apartment in the 8th arrondissement into a contemporary home for herself and her three children without losing its beautiful architectural details. "The apartment has a lot of wonderful authentic features," Hermand said. "So rather than completely re-do the space, we chose to work with and respect the existing features with a selection of contemporary furniture and tones."
Clean-lined furnishings and sculptural lighting balance ornate moldings and gilded mirrors to create a space that's family-friendly and filled with French flair. In the kitchen, sleek cabinetry blends with the original herringbone wood floors for the perfect mix of old and new. And while the common living spaces are airy and understated, the private bedrooms are bold and whimsical.
The final result is a home that's playful and fashion-forward — just like the family that lives there.
1. Entrance
Hermand applied Wall & Deco's romantic "Midsummer Night" wallpaper above a custom bench in the moody entrance.
2. Living Room
Farrow & Ball's "Strong White" brightens the living room, where a blue Moroso sofa is illuminated by Aim pendant lights by Flos.
3. Kitchen
Tolix stools are pulled up the kitchen's custom island, which is topped with Silestone Blanco. Hermand designed the cabinetry and had it fabricated in Oberflex wood laminate.
4. Family Room
Hermand satisfied the client's wish for a large bookshelf and reading area in the family room.
5. Master Bedroom
The master bedroom is painted in Sikkens' T0.20.30, and the space is accented with a rosewood wardrobe and Gras wall lights by DCW Editions.
6. Guest Room
Cole and Son's "Deco Palm" wallpaper adds energy to the guest room.
7. Kid's Room
"Oxford Clay" wallpaper by Rebel Walls lines the wardrobe of one of the kid's rooms.
8. Kid's Room
In another kid's room, wallpaper depicting the Paris skyline by Ohmywall creates a charming mural.
9. Kids' Bathroom
Geometric porcelain tiles by Mutina line the kids' bathroom.
