How To Clean An Electric Stove

This easy tutorial will show you how to clean an electric stove (the coils, the drip pans, and the actual stove top) using common household items. Just make sure your stove is completely cool before starting the cleaning process!

How to Clean Electric Stove Coils

Things Needed

  • Dish liquid soap

  • Water

  • Scrub sponge

  • Clean cloth

1. Remove the coils from the stove.

To remove the electric coils from your stove, simply lift them up from the rounded edge and give them a pull. They should easily pull out from the stove.

2. Make a cleaning solution.

Add a few drops of dish liquid to a bowl of warm water and mix together forming a soapy mixture.

3. Clean the coils using soapy water and a scrub sponge.

Dip the scrub sponge into the soapy mixture and scrub each coil, removing any burned on bits of food.

4. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Dampen a clean cloth and wipe each burner clean.

5. Allow to dry and reattach to the stove.

Once your coils have dried completely, reattach them to the stove. If you are also cleaning your drip pans, skip this step until after cleaning them.

How to Clean Electric Stove Drip Pans

Things Needed

  • 1/2 cup of baking soda

  • 1 tablespoon of dish liquid soap

  • Scrub sponge

  • Clean cloth

1. Remove the stove coils and set aside.

Follow the instructions above to remove and clean stove coils.

2. Remove the drip pans.

3. Make a cleaning paste.

Mix 1/2 cup of baking soda and one tablespoon of dish liquid together in a small bowl.

4. Scrub the drip pans.

Spoon some of the cleaning paste onto each drip pan and scrub any food and debris off with a damp scrub sponge.

5. Rinse the drip pans in warm water.

If you have extra difficult burned on food stains, repeat steps four and five.

6. Dry using a clean cloth and return the pans to stove.

Tip

If you want to go the extra mile and protect your drip pans, you can cover them with aluminum foil and replace the foil when it gets dirty. You can also buy inexpensive replacement drip pans on Amazon.
